Listen up people, I recall when Occupy Boston was happening many people were not taking it seriously. This is because in the end the energy and the impression that the protesters were giving off was not serious. For something to be believable, the person saying it, needs to believe what they are saying. For example, this is a tactic used by the people you see on the news. Why is it we believe what we watch on the news? The answer is because the people who are there to tell us the news believe what they are saying. Why they believe what they are saying is another story. They are taught and trained to believe what they exhibit on television. What we see on the news is manipulation. I study international relations and for studying a topic such as this it calls for reading the news of different countries. Try it, find a topic, any political topic and look at what different countries are saying about the same topic. Once you find this said topic, compare the results of different countries, some will leave you laughing. Also, history is crucial in international relations. The history of any country still dictates the quality of what the government is telling to the people. And let us think about what history is for a moment. Say you have a war, who writes the history books? The winners. Of course the winners will write what their perspective. Facts of history become lost in translation and eventually it is too late to change history because it is the prominent belief. Understanding ones culture and history is key in creating a political movement, knowledge always protects and saves humans.

And now how does all of this connect to the Occupy movement, internationally speaking. What you believe is what you emit, it is what you send forth. A flaw in Occupy Boston was confusion, the people did not know exactly what they were fighting for. In order to create a successful protest, manifestation the people need to know, believe and understand the problem, and have clear objectives with an exact plan on how they intend to carry it out. The mentality among the people needs to be permeated, collective. That I believe is what the people of Occupy Boston lacked. I support change to better our planet and our living and I certainly was hurt when Occupy Boston was criticized, judged and some even slandered. But we cannot simply blame newspapers and other people for not taking Occupy Boston seriously. When one takes himself and his task seriously it can be accomplished. With the proper organization and way of thinking it can be done. The issue is that many people are living in a world of opinion, not in reality. Opinions complicate everything. And what we need is to simplify the situation.

I read this article in November 2011 and wanted to post it then but now I am glad I waited because the topic isn’t as fresh. Now people can read this and instead of responding instantly with emotion, perhaps now people can stop and think for a moment consider, in general, other perspectives. With such an influx of media, culture and opinion these days it is easy to be confused. Educate yourself and you will know what you are talking about. When you truly understand the roots of everything it becomes simple, and in this moment true change can take place. I would like to open the discussion of political change because it is what the world lacks right now, proper political change and successful political movements. Coming up next: Occupy Sol (Madrid)

I read an article today that my mom sent me about laughter. I found out that Women laugh more than men and that probably does not surprise me. I love to laugh :D And of course this leads to one of my favorite quotes by Marilyn Monroe, ¨If you can make a girl laugh, you can make her do anything¨. And it is actually true, women, statistically speaking seek out men that make them laugh. And the best part is the men are more than happy to fill their roles.¨Men were more interested in women who laughed heartily in their presence.¨ Now that I found intriguing because I know I laugh a lot hehe.

We have all heard that laughter is the best medicine but did you know that it has scientifically been proven to be a pain reducer? The article included a study where, ¨orthopedic surgery patients who watched comedic videos requested fewer aspirin and tranquilizers than the group that viewed dramas¨. Amazing. In the end we feel less pain when we are laughing. Which explains all of those clumsy times when we are with are friends and fall over and don´t realize that we should really be in pain because we are too busy laughing.

If you have ever laughed you know that laughter is contagious. Apparently there is a mechanism in our brains neurologically wired to detect when to laugh. So it´s not a coincidence that we all laugh at the same time! In the end laughter connects all of us. It is one of the characteristics that makes us human.

Have been living in Spain for a few months now and only have a little to go until I return to Boston. I can honestly say this was the best decision I have ever made in my life. My first objective was to learn Spanish (I of course have studied it prior and traveled to a few Spanish-speaking countries) I can safely say I and those around have seen significant improvement. Objective #2 to grow as a person. And 3, I am studying international relations here at the same university because they have a branch here in Madrid. I can tell you my mentality has made a complete 360˚ and for the better. I left everything behind in Boston to live. I love Boston and had everything there, I was comfortable and I left it all behind to start my wild adventure into the unknown. I really liked Spain from the first few days but that did not make my transition any easier. Eventually I found some friends from Spain, found my psy community and all was right again. I can say I could easily remain here for the rest of my life but sadly I cannot right now. I know to enjoy every moment of the rest of my time here and am making plans to return again.
